The paternity test is based on the analysis of non-coding repetitive DNA regions (STR markers), which do not reveal information about health or physical traits, but do allow for precise determination of a biological relationship.
This test compares the genetic profiles of the child with those of the alleged father and/or mother. The result is always clear:
-Inclusion: Confirms biological paternity/maternity with a probability greater than 99.99%.
-Exclusion: Rules out paternity/maternity with 100% certainty.
The test can be done privately and informatively, without the need to identify the participants, ideal for obtaining personal peace of mind.
If the result needs to have legal validity (for example, for judicial processes), it will be necessary to go to the laboratory to collect samples with identification and chain of custody.
The technique used is identical in both cases; the difference lies in the process and the subsequent use of the results.
