One of the possible causes of migraine is the accumulation of histamine, a substance present in many foods. Normally, our body eliminates it thanks to an enzyme called Diamine Oxidase (DAO), which is produced in the intestine.
However, some people have a deficiency or low activity of this enzyme. When this happens, histamine is not properly eliminated and accumulates in the body, which can cause symptoms such as migraines, among others.
If it is confirmed that you have a DAO deficiency, you can improve your symptoms by reducing the consumption of foods rich in histamine and/or taking specific supplements that help metabolize it better.
