Descripción

The Fructose Intolerance Test consists of the oral administration of a fructose solution, followed by the collection of breath samples every 30 minutes, for a total of 3 and a half hours.
The analysis measures the levels of hydrogen and methane present in the breath, gases produced by the fermentation of unabsorbed fructose in the colon. An increase in these gases in the samples indicates the presence of intestinal fructose malabsorption.
This test allows differentiation between nonspecific digestive discomfort and a specific fructose intolerance, facilitating an accurate diagnosis and a personalized dietary plan.

¿Is it suitable for me?

This test is for you if:
• You experience digestive discomfort (bloating, gas, diarrhea, or abdominal pain) after consuming fruits, vegetables, honey, or other foods containing fructose.
• You have an uncertain diagnosis of irritable bowel syndrome.
• You want to identify if your chronic digestive symptoms are due to fructose malabsorption.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between fructose intolerance and other food intolerances?

Fructose intolerance is a difficulty in absorbing this sugar, while other intolerances (such as lactose or sorbitol) affect different sugars. Each test evaluates a specific mechanism.

Is the test uncomfortable or painful?

No, this is a simple and non-invasive test. You will only need to blow into some tubes at regular intervals after ingesting the fructose solution.

Can I take medication before the test?

Some medications interfere with the result, so it is recommended to consult your doctor. In general, antibiotics, probiotics, and laxatives should be avoided in the days or weeks prior.

Is this test used to diagnose irritable bowel syndrome (IBS)?

No, but it can help differentiate whether your digestive symptoms are due to a specific fructose intolerance or another type of intestinal disorder.

Are the results final?

Yes, in most cases. However, your doctor may recommend additional tests or trial dietary adjustments to confirm the diagnosis.

Customer Reviews

The procedure was simple and non-invasive: I just had to blow into several tubes after drinking a fructose beverage.

Marina A.

The process was easy, not painful or invasive, it just takes some time because you have to blow several times throughout the test. The final report was very clear.
